【講題大綱】
As technology evolves, the capacity of today`s hard disk drives (HDDs) or solid-state drives (SSDs) has been improved significantly with decent price drops. For example, you can easily buy a small thumb drive of 128GB with less than 1000 NTD. However, reliability and performance are not improved with the trend of capacity growth due to the cost reduction. Therefore, secrets are hidden by the manufacturers to make users unaware of the lowered reliability and performance. In this speech, the secret characteristics of today’s HDDs and SSDs that the manufacturers don’t want you to know are shared. Accordingly, a series of reliability and performance improvement schemes are also introduced. The main topic of this speech covers 3D NAND flash memory and shingled magnetic disk drives.
